Crosstown Traffic: Adobe and Microsoft trading spaces

It seemed almost like the Good Old Days when everyone waited on Microsoft to show their cards before doing anything. While Adobe took over Moscone West in San Francisco for its MAX developer conference, Microsoft launched its Microsoft Online Services operation at the St. Regis 3 blocks away before an audience of press, analysts, bloggers, and most importantly, business partners. As one Adobe high up said, “Microsoft is focused on the enterprise.” Left unsaid but only barely is that Adobe’s pl

iPhone: Google Mobile Voice Search

I've been playing with yesterday's release of Google Mobile for the iPhone. This is the one with the voice recognition search. Works very well. I'm very impressed, $GOOG. So far, I've done four searches, and I must be enunciating very well as the new app recognized the words and popped up a list of search results and a map at the top of the results screen. Unfortunately, $GOOG is now trading at $286 as I type. Almost a 5% drop for the day. Down from its 52-week high of $724. Yowch. Hey, whateve

Well Off the Lows

Mark Cuban responds, sorta-kinda, to the insider trading thang on his blog. "I wish I could say more, but I will have to leave it to this, and let the judicial process do its job."What passes for a "good day" in the stock market these days is when you hear a reporter say that we're "well off the lows of the day." You know, the stock market drops 250 points, then we rally to be only down 100. That's a good day.Citigroup laying off a total of 20% of their workforce. That adds another 53,000 to

RIM channel checks look good

RIM is trading at prices that are half the low (C$100) we were getting used to. It hasn’t been at C$50 since May 2007, which wasn’t that long ago of course. This for our friends at Thomas Weisel Partners, in the guide up to the November quarter: “We spoke with more than 60 AT&T and Rogers stores this past week, and found overwhelming evidence that recently launched Bold Blackberry is off to a great start and, in many cases, is already the top selling smartphone. In fact, many sales people desc

Barack Obama is Your New Dad

November is MFP's birth month. Up until election day on November 4th, whenever I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, MFP would respond, "A new president." Happily, he received both gifts this year with the addition of an audio version of "Dreams from My dad" to commemorate his first gift. As I explained to a pal yesterday, I figure that hearing Obama's melifluous
